Q&A with Author Ken Altabef
Spring 2014
- Can you tell us a little what your story, "In the Blood," is about?
How did you come up with the idea?
In an old magazine article I came across mention of the fact that in
the 1800's traveling carnivals sometimes featured a math whiz as part
of the sideshow. It was a different time. What would it be like for a
math genius to be considered a sideshow freak? And what could that
tell us about the nature of freaks in general?
- What is your inspiration for writing as a whole?
Ray Bradbury. I read "Dandelion Wine" and "The Hobbit" in the same
month when I was twelve. I've never looked back.
- Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I'm a retired physician turned full-time writer. An active member of
SFWA, I live in New York with my lovely wife and two kids.
- Where can listeners find more of your work?
My current novel series is called "Way of the Shaman," an arctic
fantasy from Blueberry Lane Books.
- (Just for Juli's curiosity): What are you reading now?
Just finished "Storm of Swords"
Just started "Mary Reilly"
