Wulf Moon lives with his wife and their seven sinister cats on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. He wrote his first science fiction story when he was fifteen. It won the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and became his first pro sale in Science World.
His stories have appeared in numerous publications including Writers of the Future, Best of Deep Magic Anthology Two, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2 by Pocket Books, Galaxy's Edge, and Best of Third Flatiron. He is podcast director at Future Science Fiction Digest.
Moon wrote this story at the Writers of the Future Workshop in exactly 24 hours! It's the result of their well-known exercise where Tim Powers pulls items from a top hat to be each student's writing prompt. He handed Moon a blank 3x5 index card! Winners were then sent into the streets of Hollywood to interview a stranger to enhance their stories. Moon struck up conversation with the Hispanic daughter of a food truck owner and discovered they were from Nebraska. As he walked back along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the story gelled. He finished it in the allotted time (whew) but was so busy after returning home he trunked it and didn't pull it out until he saw Third Flatiron's call. He's happy to say it sold its first time out!
