Smashwords Expands Distribution

Smashwords recently merged with Draft2Digital, where we will be publishing some ebooks in the future. Our most recent ebooks are still available free to Kindle subscribers, but ebooks available via Smashwords are now also available at reduced prices at many other stores, including Apple, and Barnes & Noble. To take advantage of these avenues for purchase, you can open a free account at Books2Read.com. Happy reading!

Third Flatiron Stories on British SF Association Awards Longlist

We’re proud to announce that four short stories from Third Flatiron’s Rhapsody of the Spheres anthology (as well as the anthology itself) have been nominated in the BSFA awards longlist for 2023:

A Touch of the Grape by Sharon Diane King
Euterpe by Maureen Bowden
Changing of the Guard by Taylor Dye
The Stellar Instrument by Brandon Case

My own short story collection, Twelve All in Dread: The Twelfth Witch and Other Stories, also made it onto the longlist.

Award winners will be announced at EasterCon, Levitation, being held at the Telford International Centre, 29  March to 1 April 2024.

Best British SF Features Hogan Story

Two asteroid miners drink to the end of the job in Liam Hogan’s story, “Last Bite at the Klondike,” which appeared in our “After the Gold Rush” anthology, chosen for the “Best of British Science Fiction 2022,” edited by Donna Scott. Congrats, Liam!

Top 10 Finishers in Critters Readers Poll

Wulf Moon’s “Sophie’s Parisian Stationery and Parfumerie Magnifique” Wins in Critters Readers Poll

We’re proud to report that Moon’s story took first place in the “All Other Short Stories” category. It appeared in the Third Flatiron anthology, Things With Feathers: Stories of Hope. The postapocalyptic story follows the efforts of a sentient building AI whose main purpose is to help its human customers. Moon also won the Best Author category.

A number of other stories from the anthology placed in the top 10, including David Cleden’s “Ephemeralities” (SFF), Bruce Arthurs’s “The Best Damned Barbershop in Hell” (Horror), Sharon Diane King’s “The Sorcerer’s Appendix” (Magical Realism), and Gerri Leen’s “What Hope Might Ask” (Positive Future).

Third Flatiron won second place kudos in the Publisher and Artist (Keely Rew) categories. Additional results are listed at critters.org/predpoll
